About the book:

When American-born Jennifer falls in love with French-born Philippe during the First Intifada in Israel, she understands their relationship isn’t perfect. Both 23, both Jewish, they lead very different lives: she’s a secular tourist, he’s an observant immigrant. Despite their opposing outlooks on two fundamental issues—country and religion—they are determined to make it work. For the next 20 years, they root and uproot their growing family, each longing for a singular place to call home. In Places We Left Behind, Jennifer puts her marriage under a microscope, examining commitment and compromise, faith and family while moving between prose and poetry, playing with language and form, daring the reader to read between the lines.

About the authors:

Born in the San Francisco Bay Area, Jennifer Lang lives in Tel Aviv, where she runs israelwriterstudio. Her prize-winning essays appear in Baltimore Review, Under the Sun, Midway Journal, and elsewhere. She holds an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts and is an Assistant Editor at Brevity Journal, longtime yoga practitioner and instructor. Her award-winning Places We Left Behind: a memoir-in-miniature will be followed by Landed: A yogi’s memoir in pieces & poses (10/15/2024) both with Vine Leaves Press.

Blair Glaser, MA has been writing and teaching in the field of communication and personal development for more than 25 years. She currently serves as an executive coach and leadership consultant who helps mission-driven leaders create dynamic businesses and highly functional teams. She has worked with clients in Fortune 500 organizations such as Citibank, UBS and Ralph Lauren; and in nonprofits such as The Women’s Funding Network, Emerge America and Mt. Sinai Hospital of New York. A licensed therapist, she has led empowerment workshops for women nationally and at the Omega Institute, and was hired by Jane Fonda to develop and facilitate a workshop for girls. Blair is also a writer whose personal and business essays appear on her blog and online publications such as Longreads, Yes! The Muse, HuffPo, Insider, QZ at work, and Shondaland, to name a few. She’s completed a memoir about what she learned from her near cult experience, and lives and works with her husband and dog-ter in Venice Beach.
