Classical Chinese Poetry: On Li Bai and Du Fu

September 7 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Whether you’re passionate about literature or you’re simply curious about China, join us for an evening of classical Chinese poetry.

TanSuo Cultural Travel specialises in tours that take you off the beaten track in China. We pride ourselves on the extensive knowledge and cultural understanding of our travel experts, who will accompany you on your tour. Every fortnight on a Wednesday evening, we offer a free seminar on a certain topic related to Chinese culture.

This week, we’ll be heading back over 3,000 years ago to examine the birth of classical Chinese poetry and how these early poetic anthologies went on to influence two of the greatest poets in Chinese history.

The first half of the seminar will concentrate on the Shijing or “Classic of Poetry,” an anthology of classical Chinese poems that dates all the way back to the 11th century BC! During the second half, we’ll be taking a closer look at the two most prominent poets in the Chinese canon, who are known as Li Bai and Du Fu.

During this interactive seminar, you’ll have the opportunity to track the historical timeline of Chinese poetry and discuss your love of poetry with like-minded individuals.

On top of all that, you’ll also have the chance to learn one of Li Bai’s poems in its original Chinese!
