Award-Winning Poet Andrea Carter Brown Reads From “September 12”

February 3 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Facebooktwitter
Poets Andrea Carter Brown and Patty Seyburn will read from and discuss their latest collections, “September 12” and “Threshold Delivery”.

Did 9/11 end on September 12, 2001? Nearly 60,000 people are still enrolled in health-monitoring and treatment programs related to the attacks, and about half of the adults in the program have reported feeling more afraid, careful, distrustful and vulnerable in the years following 9/11. Andrea Carter Brown, a poet and former resident of downtown Manhattan, knows the enduring impact firsthand. Her powerful new collection is a tribute that nurtures remembrance and healing.

September 12  illuminates the long-term effects of the attacks that continue to affect us on a global scale. Poems from the book have been recognized by the James Dickey Prize, the River Styx International Poetry Prize, the National Poet Hunt from The MacGuffin, Split This Rock, NPR, and the Library of Congress Online Guide to the Poetry of 9/11.

Andrea Carter Brown will share her moving poems and prose at the Flintridge Bookstore on February 3, 2022. She will be joined by the award-winning poet Patty Seyburn, author of the notable collections Threshold Delivery (2019) and Perfecta (2014), who will read from her own work and join Andrea after the reading in conversation. Attendees are invited to ask questions and share their own experiences during the Q&A portion.

Join these poets in the ongoing process of discovery and recovery.

Andrea Carter Brown is also the author of The Disheveled Bed (2006) and two chapbooks, Domestic Karma (2018) and Brook & Rainbow (Winner of the 2000 Sow’s Ear Press Chapbook Award). Among others, she has won the Five Points James Dickey Prize, the River Styx International Poetry Prize, and the PSA Gustav Davidson Memorial Prize. Since 2017, she has been Series Editor of the Word Works Washington Prize.

Patty Seyburn has published five collections of poems, most recently Threshold Delivery (2019) and Perfecta (2014). She is a professor at California State University, Long Beach.
